Maycraft 1900

Been working on building my Maycraft 1900 into a duck boat.

Figured I’d share the pictures of before and after the paint job.

Still going to paint the cap and the inside walls.

Then I’m going to get the t top fabricated so I can take it off during hunting season.

Then I figure I’ll build a washboard style rig. Would go full scissor rig style but I hunt alone a decent amount and don’t want to have to set up a whole scissor rig alone.

I’m sure I’ll tweak some other stuff too

Finished the cap with the same color as the outside hull

Painted the inside hull a slightly lighter grey to keep it cooler in the summer. Going to keep the deck white for the same reason. I’m pleased with how it turned out.

Knocked out some trailer work also, rebuilt winch and new fenders (not pictured here)

Next up - drop her off at modlins for some breakaway joints in the t top and order some industrial kitchen mats to break up the white on the deck

Good looking rig. By a wasboard rig do you mean just having pines around the boat itself and not actually having a blind that deploys ? I keep thinking I'd like to having something bigger to duck hunt out of but dont want something so big that I have to depend on someone else going. As deadly and as fun as a scissors rig is they are a lot of work. Also hate to spend the time and money to get one set up then Hyde county pass a blind law, that keeps coming up in the back of my mind also.

You're spot on. I've heard it called a washboard/gunnel rig. Essentially it is the mounted boards on your gunnels; however, not utilizing the deployable float blind. I have done a good bit of research on this style of rig and have heard of some good success from other guys. I do know that it won't be as effective as the typical scissor float rig, but I feel confident it will get the job done when I want to hunt open water. I will also be using a burlap style camo netting with lead line attached at the bottom to act as skirt to the boat.
The main reason I want to go with this style of rig as opposed to the traditional is that I often hunt alone and I don't want to mess with deploying the larger rig by myself.

By the way, a solution to your dilemma is to just pack it in and hunt with me haha

Be sure you have access to LOTS of pine bushes if you are going to go this route. It takes a LOT and you'll probably need to refresh them midseason.

Hey I've got a few questions going to paint mine this spring. What type of prep work did u do to the hull. What brand paint and how did you apply it. Looks like a phenomenal job. Any info would be appreciated have a very similar hull and length boat. Thanks

Thanks buddy. I used brightside toplac plus paint (3 coats) and primekote primer (2 coats) I used 4 inch high density foam rollers for everything.

Sanded gel coat with 180 grit, cleaned with brightside cleaner, primed, sanded with 240, cleaned, painted (rolled on vertically in small sections), sanded again with 240, cleaned, so on and so forth.

Take your time! This ain’t a race. Buy the right gear and have at it. Sanding is the most important part

Drop me a line if you want more help
