Male & Female Red Bellied Woodpeckers made this nest cavity back in the spring

They ended up not using it…female may have found the inside too small, or something happened to her, etc…it’s sat empty since.
Yesterday, this Northern Flicker began chipping the opening bigger so he could get inside.
Finished it today…I assume to use for a winter shelter because breeding is over until next spring of course.
[ but he looks young with very small size black mustaches, so maybe he has no idea why he’s doing it :) ]
