so the other day was Kelty's first "laid" track - she has shown a strong nose potential so far

happened to have a fresh dead rabbit so laid a track, 30 yards out then a 70 degree turn for another 20 yards and put the rabbi in a small tree in case I needed it for any reinforcement etc

started her at the 'hot spot" where the track started, she trailed it well, missed the turn but only went a few feet then looped back and picked it up. Got to tree, made a small loop around it and then looked up at the rabbit, then jumped on the tree like she's part bluetick,,,

she was hot for that rabbit on the walk back to the truck,,,

liking her style so far

Love females for starting early, hate them for being moody and quirky. She is a good looking dog.

thanks @nccatfisher and @pcbuckhunter - she has her quirks right now, but we are working through them,,,

used the rabbit again yesterday (then left it in woods),,, she did well on a track twice as long, didn't get up on the tree this time but worked the track well

Beautiful dog. I'm toying with the idea of getting a gsp or wirehaired for grouse and small game, do you think your dogs have been harmed by the cross training or are they still good bird dogs after treeing squirrels or sniffing out rabbits?

Any books or other training resources you can recommend?
