Greetings all,
I'm new to this area and noticed that the Johns River Game Lands (pos small game permit) authorizes hunting feral pigs.
Has anyone ever taken a feral swine there at this time of year?

I've checked some resources, including a 2016 map (https://nccriminallaw.sog.unc.edu/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/feral-swine-map-snipped.jpg). The map shows populations between Caldwell and Burke that seem to match or be near the John River GL. Of course, a lot has changed since 2016. However, South Mountain is also present on this map, and I have heard that in the South Mountains GL wild swine are still a common habitat.
Most those pigs at south mtn were in park I'm sure few crossed onto gameland but they've done some serious eradication efforts that have definitely helped get rid of em I haven't seen a pig track in over 5 years now. I can't 100% tell you what population is like now you could talk to park staff I'm sure they could give you some info of course can't hunt park but possible if still around could cross over onto public. If you kill one on John's you've definitely done something I know folks that border it that bait and never even had night pick of one.

I have duck, deer and turkey hunted JR for years.
Both Lower Lower Creek, and Corpening Bridge Tracts. Never seen any sign of hogs, but have seen bear scat. Fyi, there are also no turkeys, or deer but plenty of Squirrels.😁

If you are wanting to hunt wild boar, I suggest you look along the neuse river in Johnson county
Asked my friends it's good place, but there are no public land for hunting. Private property lands with wild pigs available much closer, near Pee Dee GM.

From where your at your asking about totally wrong places for a pig extremely low chances to non existent. you'd be so much better off looking south for a pig I've got ton of em on camera no more than hourish plus south of you, wish someone would kill everyone one of the vermin.

Sounds like we need a Hog Camp.
That'd be nice but them suckers down there are tough to hunt the pressure seems keep them nocturnal often. we killed several on private over bait and couple in a trap but they learn quick then your limited by boundaries if they bed off property to get em out in daylight. Right now would be time go get em now or summer IMO.

I got it - Johns River Gm totally wrong place for the boar hunting.
I'm located in Charlotte, if you need any help with wild hogs I'm open to join your team, and yes Hog Camp sounds good, especially if there are a dogs.

If you are from Charlotte there are plenty of them 45 mins north of you but if you don't have a boat access is limited. Their in some of the nastiest thickets there are in that area but they are there. But to NC GL laws they stay protected pretty much all summer and they are thriving.

I wonder, what a place, something around Lake Norman?

Seriously and they will keep thriving until it becomes an issue so big that allowing hunters won’t be a serious enough effort
