Don't feel too bad, I sheepshead fish a good bit and haven't landed one over 8 pounds. The more you fish for them the easier it will get. Its easy to pass a lot of good spots on the way to a way to a know "honeyhole". Check dock pilings, channel markers, concrete bulkheads etc. At low tide look for spots on pilings where they have been feeding on barnacles.

I understand persistence and experience pay off. I've put only one day into trying for sheepshead - from show and one pier no less!

As far as surf fishing, I only go occasionally on day trips with the family (mostly). Can't expect greatness but I'd think I'd catch a FEW targeted species!

The smaller ones are beautiful. Or should I say the stark black n white ones are.

That’s a big one for sure. When they get over 4-5 pounds they usually put up quite a fight. Being that they are often only a foot or two from hard structure with oysters, it can get intense.
