Hey y'all. So I am new here and figured it would be a good place to get info and/or learn some things. I have never been hunting before, but I made the decision to start filling our families freezer. I took the Hunter safety course last year and got properly licensed for NC. I plan to buy a ladder stand and a crossbow in the next week or so and start practicing for the upcoming season. My parents have some property, so I am mostly all set.
Now the keep me legal part. I really don't want to get on the wrong side of the law because I misunderstood something in the rule book. So please tell me where I am a little off in the process.
I've found my deer and I've got a clean hit on it. I track it down and find it dead. At that point, I punch the crosshairs on my tag card. Field dress the deer and haul it out of the woods (may quarter it depending how long of a haul it is to the truck). Assume I don't have signal in the woods, so once I get to the truck, I call in the harvest. Or if I don't have signal at the truck, I call it in when I do get signal within 24hrs. At this point, I get the deer proceased either by myself or a processor. Then we have meat for our freezer.
I appreciate any help/info. I just don't want to make a legal mistake when just starting out. Really excited to get out there and start hunting.
