Heck of a trout bite today

Murky cold water ain’t stopping the gill netters from raping the trout this week. Hearing reports of some sickening hauls the last couple days. Where is DMF when this :donk:donk:donk:donk is happening? Oh….they’re stopping rec fishermen to see if they kept a flounder or a 13-7/8” trout or maybe one trout over the limit. Ridiculous.

It's ok, they will knock it to 2 next year to make up for the "overfishing"

I’ve certainly caught bigger trout, but I don’t recall catching as many 18-23.5” in one spot as I did this evening. The bite was red hot the last hour of daylight….I believe I caught 12 fish in 15 or 16 casts when I first found them. Caught a couple dozen trout and 3 drum. Had a customer friend onboard with me today. We enjoyed great weather and fishing. No whoppers, but lots of 18-21” fish. It’s been 4 years since we’ve had a hard freeze. Where are all the big trout???? Sold I’m afraid. The area I fished today doesn’t typically see a lot of net pressure at all. I saw more netters today than I’ve ever seen. Disappointing.

Water temp on the inside was 53 Sunday morning but got up to 57 by late afternoon with flood tide all day. No way the sound temp is still that warm after last night and tonight with the wind and cooler temps.

ENC trout fishing sucks right now. Probably no reason at all to even waste the time, money, fuel over the next 4 months. Shoulda been here in October/November. Y'all come back around April/May now, ya hear?
I can attest to that comment for Sunday at least. We put 3 in the boat. A buddy bass fished Sunday and claims to have tore them up and he was in the same body of water as I was. So who knows.

We started off crappie fishing on saturday and by noon we had switched to bass fishing. Absolutely slayed em until dark on suspending jerkbaits. Just counting bass, we had 80ish fish. Most were 2 or so pounds with a few 4ish pound fish in the mix.

Fished Friday and Saturday. Spent Friday grinding to catch 10 trout…..fortunately all were nice hard fighting fish. Saturday was a different story. We caught 44 big fat trout and a 25” drum by mid-morning and were sitting at a local restaurant eating pizza and drinking beer at noon.

Since the warm up it’s been slow fishing for me and several other buddies that I keep in touch with. Went from catching 30-60/trip to single digits. Made a solo effort this morning and wound up with 7 trout, a rock and 2 perch. I found lots of bait around 9:30 and only had a few trout bites. Weird. Ready for it to get cold!!! Enjoyable morning nonetheless.

After talking with 6-7 other guys, I got reports from all over….Neuse, Bay, Pamlico, Pungo Rivers…..there has clearly been a speckled trout rapture. Season is over. Oh well, guess I’ll focus on honey-do list after Christmas.

Yep, our fish on this end are scattered all over the place. Water temps jumped up to 56-58° by yesterday afternoon.
Maybe i can get some truck, boat, and house maintenance done before the fishing picks back up.
