Gulf Coast of Mexico - Late Season waterfowl Hunt

Hydemarsh

Six Pointer
Hi,, has anyone hunted the gulf coast of Mexico in the last couple of years?
Wondering if there are still plenty of birds there in mid Feb?
Did you find it safe?
Was the hunting good?

Thinking about booking a hunt around Feb 12th of 2019.

Any input appreciated.

Went to the Pacific side, Sea of Cortez, Obregon this year in mid Feb and it was fantastic.

Had a Buddy from SC that hunted down there every year. 7 years ago he stopped and said was not safe to go anymore. He said gorilla soldiers at lot of cross roads and had to be bribed before passing. Said not money but with little Debbie cakes and snacks. Said hunting was unbelievable but not worth dying for.

The Northern Gulf is completely out of the question. I just got back from Campeche last month. It is way too dangerous and we had to cut our hunt short. Cartels set off a bomb on one of the ferries while we were there. Traveling on the secondary roads is just too dangerous. You will at least get robbed at a checkpoint. You can not gringo yourself out of anything like years past. Hopefully they will get rid of President Norton in the near future and get Cartels under control. Good thing is that we stayed in Isla Mujeres longer and caught a good amount of Sailfish and caught Tarpon at Punta Mosquito.
