Good scouting strategies

Going to be hunting a new property this year but have never really had to do a lot of scouting by myself.

Looking for any good reads, books or resources for good scouting strategies.

YouTube helped me a lot supplemented with the forum.

You can never be wrong if you have an area near water, acorns (white oaks, soybeans), and bedding.

Most important, don’t overwork an area and be religious with your scent control..use no dye/ no scent detergents/sprays while scouting.

Oh yeah, and Cameras help out a lot now too, I keep mine out year round.

They're deer. They only need food and safety.

Don't worry about strategy, learn your property. The rest will take care of itself.

Truth.... once you learn the lay of the land you will find those funnels between bedding areas and food.

Scent control, hunting fresh sign and most of all having fun. At this point I’m happy when I’m in the woods. Killing a deer is icing on the cake for me!

edges, creek crossings, ridges, thick bedding areas, food sources

not necessarily in that order, but those are my go to places i scout first. also, i hunt the food sources more in the evenings, and the bedding areas more in the mornings.
