Getting Rid of Mimosa Trees?

Need help getting rid of these annoying things. They grow way too fast. This area was mowed over less than two months ago.



Can I mow over again and spray high-strength glyco or similar? Can I just spread some salt, or would that affect the larger pines as well?
We don't plan to have anything planted in this area so I don't mind a total ground clear even if it'll just be dirt for a couple years. I can always sees grass back in later ...

Full strength glyphosate dabbed on the fresh cuts should keep them from coming back. There may be some yet to sprout that will have to be dealt with when they come up.

Don't dab the glyphosate on the fresh cut, douse it... repeat again when the rest of them sprout

I cut them with a machete and use a paint brush with pure round-up on the stumps.

Might try Triclopyr on fresh cuts, seems to work well on most trees

Garlon is what the forestry service and DOT use. It's concentrated, so it doesn't take a lot. For big tree you can do the "hack and squirt" treatment. For those saplings, just spray it like any other weed. You need to kill the parent tree that is dispersing the seeds. Those saplings are likely coming up from the roots of the parent tree as well. Salt is no bueno.

Also, avoid spraying on hot days if you have a garden around (tomatoes, rose bushes, grapes especially)

If mature trees have made seed pods those things will come up for years. I had one tree I let get big because of the hummingbird attraction and its been gone ten years and I have mimosa trees popping up everywhere still
