Late squash is tough. Have to spray it once or twice a week and that also doesn’t help pollination.
Mine are the opposite producing more than last year.Anyone else’s tomatoes not producing all that well? Small in size on most varieties and black rot on many bottoms. Too much rain and then I think temps have been hotter than usual.
I’m about the same. Just planted a small second batch of tomatoes a few weeks ago just to see if I can get some producers before the fall. Our tomatos are just producing so so this year. 50 plants in the ground and we're probably getting a little better than 2 5 gallon buckets a week. Tomato size is smaller than years past, but i think thats crappy weather off and on since this spring.

At some point every year we deal with the black rot. Any sort of calcium spray usually cures it pretty quick. You can buy it or make your own with egg shells or Epsom salt. You can also add calcium to the soil but the results are a little slower for us.Anyone else’s tomatoes not producing all that well? Small in size on most varieties and black rot on many bottoms. Cherokee Purples are tough. I have German Johnsons and have had the same problem in the past.Planted a row of Cherokee purples grew great. All the tomatoes split badly and ants attacked them. We’ve probably had 2 good tomatoes out of 10 plants. Ideas on how to avoid this? Pissed about the whole garden this year. Nothing did well and ready to plow it under. Okra is just starting to produce though. Everything else was disappointing!

This year I put down weed cloth with a soaker hose underneath but I've been more aggressive about cutting them earlier than normal and letting them ripen in the kitchen window. I leave as much vine on the tomato as I can get away with to help the ripening.
