I have a set of nickel tuners on hand, but pegs would look better for my first one.

Save the modern for the next one if I decide I need a chromatic scale.

I had one given to me years ago that had tuners on it. I found an old woodworker up this way, even before I came here, that made dulcimers and had him turn me a set of pegs for it. A little more tedious to get right but I still prefer the look.

I couldn't stand it. Put one of the tuners on it last night just to pluck a note.

My biggest issue is trying to find a teacher for this in the Farmer/Asheboro area. Be nice to have a little hands on help before I go flailing off.

I never learned how to note on one. Not sure what you call the tuning but the top four strings were tuned the same and the bottom string different. Then used a peg to fret the melody out. LOL..... if that makes sense.

You're not getting any younger. :D (This being the reason I made this one)

Yeah, but there's ample reason I never learned to play it, mainly because I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. My Mom played piano as did a number of relatives but that part of my brain is locked up forever.

Now, I wait for the local dulcimer teacher to tell me he has an opening.

Otherwise, I guess there's youtube....

Nice work! Hope to see & hear your video when you learn Mary Had a Little Lamb! :)

Did you use a traditional finish, like boiled linseed? Shiny is nice for some things, but your dulcimer looks sweet & natural in matte.

Regular Tung oil.

There are some areas of the walnut that had a natural shiny haze to them when sanded. Looked kind of 'mirage" like when seen at an angle. Thought it was neat. It's still does it under the finish. Hard to catch in pictures though.
