Fisherman's Post Fishing Schools

I gave my Dad a ticket to the fishing school in Greenville for Christmas and we went this weekend. Thought it was a really good, informative day. If you're looking at going, it's a worthwhile day. I really enjoyed the drum, trout, & surf fishing guides. Picked up some good ideas.

One of the more thought provoking sessions was on surf fishing. The guy was talking about only using one ounce weights and staying the the trough instead of trying to cast to or over the bar. Thought being that the fish use the trough as a highway and the lighter weight would find the holes in the sand. He also suggested lightening up on the drag so the fish would feel less pressure at initial bite. Very interesting.

The trout & drum guys also were taking a neat approach & were advocating using soft plastics and topwater baits as fish finding tools. Really reinforced the need for a trolling motor to me & not just roaring into a spot.
