Set 4 traps yesterday. MB 550s with homemade nutria bait. A grinner, a yote and a near miss on a pee set. Gonna set a few more today. Might double my pee set.
He's not a happy camper. Only had time for 2 more sets this afternoon. I am slow and a little out of shape. Got a bad back but I will get those muscles stretched out with enough trap setting. Maybe.
Day three nothing and I let the lying ass weather men talk me out of leaving them set with all the rain he said was coming. Going to trust he is wrong again and set back this afternoon. I would rather stay off the roads when wet but I have critters to catch and seam can't trust the forcast.
Yesterday I covered all but 3 traps before rabbit hunting and didn't get back to them. Had a nice surprise 1st trap this yote and the 3rd a very unhappy otter. I tried to release him but he worked my catch pole over pretty good and wore me down. Not a large one but a pretty black one I will do something with.
Checked traps this morning on my place (6 sets ) 1 set from about 25 feet we saw it was thrown but went on checked the rest so we could rush to another spot early to look for and set for beaver. Found the den in the canal bank, walked out on the debris to check it out and this bruiser came out. Got a few snares, 330s and a caster mound set in when I get a call from a buddy asking if I had traps in the area we had checked . He was looking at a coyote with a trap on his foot and he had no gun. So I drive like a bat out of hell to get there. We see it down the field and drive to about 150 yards when it runs. My buddy riding with me on a learning mission that had set this trap jumps out with the ar15 and makes a perfect 250 yard shot on this running coyote. I had him set a trap about 25 feet from a set where I had 2 yotes . When he was driving the earth anchor the driver bounced up on him and when it went back it cut the cable. He didn't set the anchor and I didn't catch it. Oh well we got him and my trap back. Beaver was 53 lbs.
Had an otter in a 330, got it out and reset in a tile . Went to the other end to reset a leghold on a caster mound where one had pushed the chest sticks over firing on his chest. Went to get in the truck and saw the 330 turned over again. WInd is wrong for my yote sets. 2 none target otter in 5 min. I'd rather had the beaver.
Location, location, location, I have 6 sets for coyote on about a mile of road. 3 from one trap,2 within a hundred yards and 1 at the other end. I have them on the north side of the road. If the wind is right it works pretty good.
Had a bobcat in a walk through set for coons a 1.5,thought I took a picture but it's not in my phone . Had this yote in dirt hole with a 550. Had 2 possums and a coon in yote sets. Had a piglet in a snare set for bobcat. And a beaver in a snare. 5 set off by bear and one had a possum foot a yote had eat everything above the trap and one set off by a bobcat. Hope the game moves that good tonight. When I went to reset the yote trap I saw the quick link undone and stetched out ready to come off.
I had set for twenty days on two places and caught 8 yotes and then it got to cold to live catch for a while and then it has been so wet I have set back because of the roads. I'll be to busy tommorow but I have a itch for a few more. Gonna give em hell the last few days. Catch a few dog trainers.
When I checked traps this morning I rushed through and did not reset, just got the possums out and went back this afternoon to reset. I had a set on the other side of the road from a possum catch that was still set. Got back this afternoon and saw where a large canine had pulled out after I checked. Big track that might be the big black one I've been after. I have wised one up.
Finished up the season with 2 more grinners. Coyotes beat me with the traps. Time to start calling and releasing the hounds. Hard to get them in with the caller in the day light but I'll try.
