Old Mossy Horns
Fiddleditzing around on the loading bench tonight.
Made up an aluminum jig to drill hollowpoints into my hand cast 405g HBFN lead 4570 bullets. Weight comes out 390 grains and weight variance seems to be under 1%. Will load these and some HBFNs tonight and hitting the range with the 1886 this weekend to finalize the hunting and working load.
Messed around with 45 acp brass. It seems that with a combination of old dies on hand, .461 lee bullet sizer, 44 magnum bullet seating die and 7.62x54 FL sizing die, I can swage old 45 ACP cases to .457 or .458 clear down past the base. I'll have to fill some with lead and see about coming up with a home made 300 to 400 grain 4570 hunting bullet.....plans are to fill the old ACP case with a 260g lead muzzleloading bullet for about 340 to 350g flat nose on completion of swaging. Will be neat if it works and I don't have to buy corbon dies. So far the RCBS rockchucker works fine to swage the 45 acp, including the head, without any annealing of the brass.
Finally, looking at the possibility of converting all those free 40 Scrub and Wash cases on the range into jacketed 45 ACB bullets.,,,,and all those free 9mm cases into 38/357 and 9mm jacketed bullets.
But for now, gotta pack up for tomorrow, testing the Packhorse 44 Magnum at the range!
