Over in another section a thread got derailed and started to turn into wresting stories. It got me thinking how cool would a thread devoted to all things Wresting would be. I put it in the General Forum because its not a sport or is it? Here it will get plenty of views.
So lets get rocking! Share your favorite guys/girls, NWA vs WWE or anything you want.

I will start:

Ric Flair is the GOAT

"Ric Flair is the GOAT"

I always enjoyed his lavish show. Even at that, I don't think I would call him a goat.

Rick Flair and Hulk Hogan used to come to Panama City Beach regularly. We'd see them both at the beach clubs and early morning breakfast places after hours

Okay I have an epic wrasslin’ story, but it kinda of outs my red neck white trash roots.

I cannot remember the year, but it was early 80’s. I grew up in a rural part of Central Florida, at least it was rural back then. Spent many a night at the Eddie Graham Sports Stadium watching Florida Championship Wrestling, this was the territory days before Vince McMahon and Ted Turner took over with nationwide television.

Anyway, my dad, myself and my uncle went and the main event that night was the Briscoe Brothers (Jack and Jerry) vs. the Funk Brothers (Terry and Dory Jr.)

So the main event is ready to start and my uncle opens up a large sign he had made. It had a drawing of a hand giving the middle finger and said “Hey Funks, Burn in Hell Like Your Old Man”. We were in the third row, so as Terry and Dory Jr. came to the ring they saw the sign. They came out of the ring and approached my uncle and Terry said to him he wanted the F’n sign. My uncle said some words back and he and Terry Funk were nose to nose calling each other everything but a child of God. Dory Jr. approached and my dad grabbed a chair, folded it up and drew it back, ready to bring it down on Dory Funk Jr.

The next thing I know cops were everywhere separating my dad and uncle from the Funk Brothers. Finally some semblance of order was restored and the cops escorted the Funk’s to the ring. The match was a 30-45 minute bloodbath and that sign got passed around the Eddie Graham Sports Stadium with chants of Burn in Hell for most of the match.

Another one was when I was in college a few of us from the baseball team went to a WCW Monday Nitro. We had front row seats facing the camera. This was when Raven was just joining WCW and he would come out and sit in the crowd. Well as luck would have it he came and sat right next to us. So me and a buddy started in on him pretty hard, a few minutes and a bunch of personal insults later he gets up and starts jawing back, security comes in and nothing really happened just a lot of trash talking between Raven myself and a a few buddies. The funny part is we get back to campus at like 2:00am and the entire dorm is still up waiting on us. They had the camera on the entire incident and all the guys in the dorm were watching because they knew we were going. Somebody had taped it on their VCR and I still have that VHS tape somewhere.

Yes, in my opinion Ric Flair is the GOAT, he lived the gimmick and did it better than anyone that has ever stepped foot in the squared circle.

My favorite wrestler was and always will be Barry Windham, with the Road Warriors a close second.

In today’s wrestling I like Randy Orton and Hangman Adam Page.

I use to watch WCW Saturday night with Gordon Solie every Saturday. Went down to the Omni in Atlanta Georgia to watch it several times. Some of my favorites were Tommy Wildfire Rich, Tony Atlas, The American Dream. My favorite villain was Baron Von Raschke. His signature move was the CLAW. My brother payed heck when we wrestled and I gave him the Claw. The figure 4 was one of my favorites too. That being said Flair is the 16 time World Champ. To be the man you got to beat the man. WHOOOOOOO!

I grew up in Charlotte, and back in the 70's when we'd head back to the farm in Columbus Co. where my Grandpa and Uncle lived, me, my dad, my older cousin and my uncle would stay up Friday nights watching Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling.
The Brisco Brother, Wahoo McDaniels, Thunderbolt Patterson, Rip Hawk, Ric Flair, Tony Atlas, the Anderson Brothers...bring back fond memories. Whoa be it to me the next day if the "bad guys" won. My cousin would hammer 4 tobacco sticks in the front yard and string a rope around it. I got to be the "bad guy" that he rolled all around the ring.

In the early 80's, I worked at the Regency Movie Theater on Albemarle Rd for 5-6 years. I saw Ric Flair, Ivan Koloff, Lex Luger, Rick Steamboat, and Jay Youngblood come through the doors. One of the girls in my Sunday School class baby sat for Ivan. Said he was a real nice guy, but was about as Russian as you or I. Lex Luger was HUGE.

Man so many memories! Went to Starcade in Greensboro multiple years in a row. American Dream against the Great Kubuki. He would blow that dust and blind him until he wore the goggles one time!
Another good rivalry was the Road Warriors and the Rock and Roll Express.

My inadvertent life in and around wrestling was interesting as a young kid in the 90s. Of course Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior were bigger than life for me, so when my aunt moved back to NC in 89 or 90 her husband was an independent wrestler from Florida. As a 7 year old this was the coolest thing ever. He would travel and do house shows for WWF, NWA, and WCW, and smaller promotions around NC and SC. I would get to tag along and sit in the crowd if they were close to home. The coolest part was getting to meet guys that he was friends with that I had seen on TV, or getting to know local guys that soon got their shot in bigger companies. The bad thing was it lifted the veil of secrecy that wrestling portrays as a legit competition or that the feuds and stories were real, when I would see the same guys who were just killing each other in the ring, go out and have drinks and tell jokes afterwards.

Later my uncle bought a ring and would promote shows at local high schools, armories, or civic centers. The cool thing about him having a ring, is he would set the ring up in the back yard and have other wrestlers over to train. Its was nothing for me to get dropped off and walk in the back yard and see the Nasty Boys, the Barbarian, Tatanka, and at the time 15 year old Hardy Boys. By the late 90s age and injuries got the best of my uncle and he had to give it up. It came at a bad time too, he was actually on his way to a contract with WWF as a tag team with Michael PS Hayes as their manager, but when he had to stop that spot went to the Hardy Boys and Michael Hayes became their manager and launched their career.

Funny story that makes my life around wrestling come full circle, I was having a conversation with my father in law and he mentioned how their family was distant related to the Hardy Boys, and then a few years later my wife's best friend ends up dating Matt for a short period.

Basically my life in kinda like Forrest Gump of wrestling, and i dont even watch it anymore.

One of my former coworkers was a big "rasslin" fan and went to a Rick Flair match in Charlotte one night. In all the exertion Rick had a little bowel slip which left a noticeable brown hash mark in his nice white trunks. Jim said a large black lady next to him shouted out for everyone's benefit, "Rick Flair, you done s--t yo draws!"

I used to work with the "Canadian Lumberjack" when I was in high school. I worked as a carpenter's helper after school and on weekends building houses with my girlfriend's brother who was a general contractor and this fella was one of our finish carpenters.
He was the fall guy for a lot of the local and regional matches that involved the bigger names. It was always interesting to see the transformation from the Tommy we knew on Saturday morning, driving nails and climbing ladders, to the Canadian Lumberjack we saw at the bowling ally on Saturday night. Fun times.....

I went to high school with Nikita Koloff's daughter. He's a pretty cool dude with some really neat stories.

Also when I was in elementary school, I would take my lunch in a white paper bag that had a wrestler printed on it. My favorite bag was the one that had the "Macho Man" Randy Savage on it! OOOHHHH YEEAAAHHH!
