A couple of buddies put together a goose hunt for Sept 17th, so am taking my son and the grandson. Grandsons first hunt, and he seems a little excited, dont think he realizes what he is in for, but am sure will be a good time. Will make sure to take lots of pics, and I am getting excited to bring him along
Will make sure he has pants and boots for the actual hunt lol

I gave Mason one job to do while we wait for this hunt, and that was to grow a beard. He hasn't forgotten either, he was asking the wife last week when I was away if he had any beard growing in yet, and tried to force some out in front of me the other day, looked more like he was pooping than anything else though.
So yesterday he was in the bath and screams of "Grampa, come here" and he had to show me what he had done to prep for the goose hunt

Well, a hunt to remember for the right reasons
Met up with the rest of the group at 5am, and Mason went around and introduced himself to everyone with high 5's
Short drive to the field we were hunting, a cut corn field, and time to start putting out the decoys

There he is on the bottom right hand going to get more decoys to put out, was fully engaged in the hunt and wanting to help

Unfortantly it was a slow day, we worked birds, but they just wouldn't commit, had a small flock of about 20 circle us 4 - 5 times, just to flare off, figure it might be the dew on the decoys causing a shine, because everything else was solid
Mason kept everyone chatting though, sharing his treats and just being a social butterfly
We did manage a lone goose though and Mason wanted to show it off

He had fun, enjoyed being with the boys, got involved with all parts of the hunt and now wants to go bear hunting
Am glad we got to at least get one bird, but I think even if we didn't Mason would have still enjoyed himself, and that is what it's all about. Now I have to think about a weekend in October and maybe chase some grouse with him for a day.

I almost forgot a moment that I should remember for a long time, I brought along a gun I won in a raffle a while back, decided to take a few shots just to see how the action works. I picked up the empty shells and gave them to Mason, he took a big ole sniff and with the joy that most of us know he said "That smells awesome"
