Duck boat upgrades

A placeholder for progress on my new boat. It’s an older Tracker Grizzly 1448 modified V hull with a 25 HP Mercury. Previous owner used it for fishing exclusively - I’ve got plans for ducks when I’m not in my creek boat.

Here it is as I got her...

Decided to put a base coat down of OD green - will be working on this later this week. Just part of it now to get a feeling on how I like it. I did some “test camo” on cardboard using this base coat and some lighter colors with some foliage from the yard - I think I’m gonna run with this.

Good luck on the boat. Its a lot if work depending in how face you take it. I did a total: repairs, paint seats, eletrical. Ibwas scared to scratch the paint. But that changed on the river in Oct and on Saturday, when the branches in the river were dragging down the side of my boat.

I’m doing paint, electrical/lights and seats to get started. It’s overall in good shape and runs well. Got to figure a blind for it too...

Call me....we can put in dual diesels with jet drives and I'll fill the hull like engineer boats with ping pong balls so you can dive it and pop back up.....!!!!!

Cut a hole in the forward bench/deck and removed some foam to install the switch panel. I’ll have the stern/nav lights, light bar, and red LED strip lights on separate switches.

Got the last of the base coat on the exterior - next is finishing the paint, running wires, and installing the seats where I want them.

She looks a little different now. Got most of the exterior painted today after removing all the old stickers, etc.

Had a few minutes today and painted the motor cover. Also took a quick photo of the flood lights on the front

The paint job is looking good. I like that breakuppattern you have going. I have painted my old seaark a few times with just green but it fades out after a year or so. Now I'm just leaving the old brown river water mud stains on it for camo.
Now you just need to build your blind and get to hunting.

Nice work. I haven't duck hunted in a few years, but some of the best memories I have of those days were the constant boat projects. Less fun were the motor projects, that never went as smoothly as we planned
, and usually ended up costing more.

Got a little work in today - installed two new mounts for the seats in the back - previous owner had only one right in the middle and too far back. Also replaced the nav lights with new LED one

Pulled the motor - taking it to the shop first of the week to have it given the once over and any maintenance it may need. Got delayed with cold weather, but electrical should be done in a week or so. Once it is, I’ll finish some paint on the inside, get the motor back on, and it should be ready for the water.77E861C3-BAE9-4023-AF2A-426CC71ACFE2.jpeg77E861C3-BAE9-4023-AF2A-426CC71ACFE2.jpeg

Getting close. Motor is getting a carb, water pump, and prop guard (for the river and such) and should be done soon. I’ve added added new LED anchor/nav lights. Added some red LED courtesy lights and most importantly, flip down cup holders on each side - coffee is important. Finished painting the stern and interiors

Have my welding buddy fabricating a gun box for me also. Think we have decided on a Beavertail 1600 blind set up and that should be ordered soon.

Getting close...

Looks good. I'm interested to know how much that prop guard affects performance (speed, getting up on step, and handling). I've thought about getting one for my boat but have hesitated because of the unknowns.

Been looking for a gun box for this boat forever (since I got it) and either they were out of stock (Covid supply chain) or shipping too expensive or didn’t fit.

My neighbor, who is a maker of most anything, agreed to build me one. Top shelf quality! Just got it painted and it’s custom fit, has a two gun rack inside, and extra room for other dry storage plus doubles nicely as a bench seat IMG_6280.jpegIMG_6279.jpegIMG_6282.jpegIMG_6281.jpegIMG_6280.jpegIMG_6279.jpegIMG_6282.jpegIMG_6281.jpeg

Got the carpet removed and the floor prepped, then the seadek installed this evening. Pretty happy with the results - also got the gun box bolted in. I’ll post up some good photos tomorrow in the daylight.

Got the camo foam floor covering down on the bow deck and floor - need one more roll to start on the back bench. Gun box is bolted in also. I should mention that the “box” was a long flat piece of diamondplate before my neighbor made it into what it is - he’s very skilled at stuff like that. Pretty happy with how it turned out, especially compared to the old nasty carpet. This boat had been a fun project so far - looking forward to killing the first ducks out of it - hopefully this season.
