Dragged myself into the "modern" world.....

Bailey Boat

Old Mossy Horns
I finally decided to stop living in the olden days of lead acid batteries. I knew last year that I would need to replace my trolling motor battery this spring and dreaded the event. First off the damned things are HEAVY and having to lift it from the tailgate of the truck into the battery box in the boat was like dead lifting 250 # or so.

SO.... I went Lithium !!! I got a 12.8 volt, 100 amp hour group 31. I had to buy a new charger but they recommended which one and it was reasonably priced. It all shipped free so I was only on the hook for $225.00 TOTAL...... I'll report back after a few uses.....

PS: It weighs a measly 24 pounds...... YEA!! Like losing 50/60 pounds.....

That’s quite a deal. Name brand lithium deep cycle batteries that size can run as much as $1k apiece.

Lol, tell me where you got the charger? I bought the same battery a month ago and can't find a charger I can afford!

I put 4 of them in my golf cart and with the charger was under $1100 from Amazon. They last longer and go faster. And I dropped about 250 lbs over 6 8v lead batteries. But when it gets low voltage it stops where lead slows down.

dokota makes a simple one for one battery very reasonable likke the old style chargers not an on board charger.

I swapped out the one in my camper and now I can go for days without any hookups. I even bought a 12 volt TV and a Starlink dish and now I’m streaming Netflix in the woods.

I used my 12v 100amp lithium in my Jon boat 2 weeks ago for the first time. Ran it hard all day and still had 79% left.

I bought 2 12v 100amp lithiums to replace my trolling motor batteries last week and will install them this week. I also have a 12v 50amp lithium for my 8 foot boat that I will likely use for the first time Thursday. Hope they are all as good as advertised. Tired of buying batteries every other year.

Just curious what brand you went with?

Thanks! Just bought it!

I spoke too soon. Coming in at twilight working in the semi dark I hooked up this charger backwards. Negative to positive....
Turned on power nothing, Figured out the error reaattached nothing.
Reading the details on Dokota's site- I effed it up beyond repair. It's rigged to prevent battery damage. Supposedly. IDK.
Can you say DA? :)

hopefully you are better off mentally and will avoid such a travesty. :)

Laughing, well, I can't promise that...but I did manage to get this new battery charged....I think. If these gale force winds ever die down I might get the chance to find out sometime soon....

Try hooking it to another 12v battery for a few minutes. Give it a little power. If there is no power the smart charger doesn't know it's there and won't charge it. Wake it up. It's worth a try.

Plenty of lithium 100ah to be found for that price.

As for a charger, a NOCO Genius works fine.

Only reason to pay more for “Name Brand” lithium is to talk to someone in the US for customer service. That said, it’s not worth the extra $300-$500 to speak to someone that MAY have had English as their first language.

I’ve got 4 in the boat… well only two of them are 12v, the others are 36v

I have 2 Redodo 12v 100ah and have a 16v 70ah Litime, I have been happy with all 3. Both those brands offer reliable performance on the cheaper end of the range. MUCH better than the old lead acid. I still have a lead battery for cranking as my boat is too old to support a lithium or I would get a lithium cranking as well.
