The germans played with that in ww2 on the StG 44 called the krummlauf. 30 degree, 45 60 and 90 degree versions were made and anything past the 45 caused the round to disentigrate producing a shotgun effect. Only the 30 degree models were used much. The 90 degree version was fitted to some tanks to sweep blind spots
