Deer Food Plot

When planting deer food plot, do you plant right up to tree line or stop short ? Thinking if you stop short of tree line the deer have to come out to reach food, correct or no?

Second question, what is a good brand and variety of clover to plant?

For me, it depends on the size of the plot. For smaller plots, I use it all.

like somebody mentioned depends on size of plot. But if its smaller would plant everything you could plant right up to woods. If you have many deer they will clean it around the woods edge anyway

I would plant the whole spot. I would use white clover and plant together with wheat the first fall planting. The wheat will be the main attractant during the first fall hunting season as the clover will not grow much until the spring. Make sure to fertilize the wheat with a nitrogen type fertilizer. Fertilized wheat is more attractive to deer than is wheat w/o the correct fertilizer. Something to remember, Clover will not grow on lighter sandier soils. Wheat will grow on either. Lime every 3rd year.
