Damned Psychotic Nerve....

@Rubline said, "That's the first time in my life that I've had trouble standing up so that has me worried."
Buddy, from someone who has always been a very active person I feel yer pain...literally.
Last night was without a doubt the most pain I've ever endured in my life. No question. At one point I would have gone to ER if I thought I could have driven myself. I didn't think I could. Rolled all over the floor, the bed, the recliner, and anything else I could get to. No joy, it never eased up a lick. Probably didn't get an hour's sleep all night.

Yesterday afternoon we went to a family dinner, I sat or hobbled around the whole time. On the way home I went by my brother's place and got him to load my old inversion bench in the truck for me. Been sitting outside for four years, the covering was shot, but I made up my mind I was going to fix it, at least well enough that I could try it. Well, a half hour this morning and roll of Gorilla tape later I was on it and inverted.

Guys and girls, I was popping and snapping like a box of Rice Krispies the entire time but I'm tellin'ya, when I got off of it and stood back up I was in almost NO PAIN for the first time since last Wednesday! I cannot tell you the amount of relief I've gotten from just a few minutes of inversion here and there this morning. This thing ain't pretty but it's functional and it's definitely earned a spot in my living room for awhile...

Had that "Psychotic nerve" issue myself and Its ZERO fun. I could barely walk. It took 6 weeks of PT and 2 injections before I got any relief. At the worst point, my leg literally buckled and I went down, fortunatly on the thick rug in the den

So Glad you got some relief. I'd still follow up with this issue. I was able to stave off surgery for almost three years which I'm thankful for, but it was temporary.

Thanks buddy, I did. Pain has subsided a ton and last night was the best sleep I've had in days but first thing this morning I went to the Greenville VA as a walk-in. They gave me a shot of Toradol in my right buttcheck, a fancy heating pad, and 5 day's worth of Prednisone. Told me the recliner was probably a good idea for at least the next couple of days. I hate sitting around but I agree...

I went to see the surgeon yesterday for my neck. I have a sharp pain anytime I lift my head up or to the right. It started in October. I've seen the PT, had 2 injections and seen a chiropractor for 4 months with no improvement. I get muscle cramps in shoulder and forearms when ever I reel in a big fish. No weakness or radiating pain. They said that I shouldn't do anything until I start getting radiating pain or weakness....

Dont know what to do now. It is really annoying. My damn Sciatic Nerve is also acting up.

@GSOHunter buddy I sure hope you get some relief soon. I was on the horn with my Primary at 0500 this morning letting her know that the shot didn't work and I was in just about as much pain as yesterday. She had also put me on massive doses(in my opinion) of Prednisone which I started this morning. Her advice was to "standby" and let the Prednisone have a chance to start working. She was right, by noon I was pretty much pain free, at least long enough to run some errands. Now, with all those steroids I don't know if I should start working out or keep an eye on my jewels...but I'm not hurting.

I can't take prednisone. I get a massive rash and see double after day 3.

Mine started on me this weekend. I think the 6 hour car ride was the last straw. I was in pain Saturday, but a ton of pain Sunday.

Only way I can describe it is; Felt like a booster charge was in my ball&socket joint, and the main charge was under my knee cap, with detcord in between, and it was in a detonation cycle. I found that sitting indian style relieved it. Walked several miles Monday, and thankfully it hasn't returned.

I hope that prednisone works for you.

Getting old sucks! I have been dealing with the sciatica for a year or so. Chiropractor would make it feel better for a few days. i have had three epidural shots. That has finally helped some to make life tolerable. if this does not work they want to do an ablation to kill the nerve which should last for a couple of years.

The best thing I have found is riding a stationary bike for 30-45 as soon as I get up which seems to stretch everything out. I also stretch after I ride. I also try and ride for at least 20 min before I play golf or any other sports activity. I wear the lidocaine patches as well when I golf of other major activity. Ibuprofen and ice after the activity.

I also take Gabapentin three times per day.

Prednisone helps....for awhile. The pain stops, I get a few things done, and it comes back with a vengeance. It's like a prescription Yellow Jacket!

SMDH....how the hell are you suppose to stay off your feet when you're so jacked up that you could thread a sewing machine with the sumbitch running?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, start lookin out in the middle of them corn fields that surround you. You will find a pretty green weed patch, pick a few buds and dry them and put 'em in a pipe. That will tone ur azz down.

If you don’t get some type of treatment eventually nerves will be permanently damaged.

I have nerve damage in my calf from my disc issue.
I get cramps in my calf and the calf muscle constantly jumps! Its to the point now that I cant even feel the movement of the jump but its wild to watch it...lol

I have 70% loss of sensation in my left leg. Dr can hit my left knee with the little rubber mallet and it don't budge. I can get around on flat clear ground pretty good but vines and roots will put me on my nose if I am not careful. My days of walking foot logs have long been gone. And I couldn't pass a sobriety test to save my butt, no matter I don't drink.

I have similar problems. Both legs areas of my calf muscles about an inch in size are constantly twitching multiple places at the same time. It's like watching a dead animal full of maggots wriggling under the skin and constantly feels like ticks crawling on me. I can feel it happening above my knees but it's not as visible. When I showed it to my neurosurgeon he just looked at my legs and went "Huh" then doubled my gabapentin dosage

No rash, but prednisone drives me up the wall!! It knocked my ulcerative colitis symptoms(extreme diarrhea on roids) out in less than 24 hours. I told doc about that and I had to be careful...worried about road rage, etc. Lol. I isolated myself the several times I had to take it. I eat a lot anyway, but ate like horse on that stuff.

Well, after a week of pain and virtually no sleep I hit the VA parking lot at 0730 this morning as a walk in....again. X-rays show an impingement @ L-4 and 5. ANOTHER shot in the butt, a prescription for pain meds, and a referral to Carolina Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Hopefully this can be rectified with PT only.....

I have/had a herniated disc that occurred back at the end of May/beginning of June. I did the steroids and gabapentin. I eventually got an MRI to confirm the diagnosis. My disc at L5 and S1 was pushing on the nerve causing numbness down the leg when I walked and eventually sharp pain down the leg into the calf. PT has really helped me out. I would go to my appointment do some exercises, he would give me exercises to do at home. Then I would come back in two weeks and repeat. The spine specialist recommended an injection in my spine, but I turned that down at the time because I didn't feel comfortable about it. I am not at a point in my PT that we may start doing lifts like squats and deadlifts.

I would try and sleep on my back with my hands flat, some people put their hands in fist, under my butt to get some relief. I tried to keep moving as much as I could and sit when it started to hurt.

Wish all you guys dealing with this all the best. I'm fortunate that I have very minimal back issues now. I did just leave a doctor's appointment with my wife and let me tell ya the chairs in that women's doctor joint are not designed for men. My lower back was giving signs of stress after sitting for five minutes.

More power to you guys!

Really hope that all who are suffering get relief and praying for that. However, I've been through it three times and Dan has been through it I think eight times. Surgery is the only thing that has helped either of us. Insurance will require PT and injections and meds but the only sure thing is to fix it so that whatever is pressing against the nerve stops pressing on it.

Many, many years ago dealing with a similar situation I learned that a good strengthening routine specifically targeting those surrounding muscles can accomplish a lot. A sleeper sofa got me back then, I'm thinking being more sedentary in retirement may have contributed to this. That stops just as soon as I can get this pain under control enough to allow it...
