Daily Fitness/workout thread

Supposed to have had a 6mi recovery yesterday. Made it 3.75ish and some of that included walking and resting. The wheels fell completely off. I think it was an electrolyte depletion from the previous days workout. I’ve also been eating like a mix of an 8yo with adult money and a raccoon.

Signups started today for what is likely my next goal race. It falls the week before National Crappie League National Championship. Don’t think I can swing the rigors or financials of both, and right now, the race is winning at my heart strings and want to’s. Can’t turn it into a vacation with the other half and maybe kid if I can convince her mom. Need a few more nights of sleep on it to make sure I want to miss the natty, to attempt it.

Wednesday did 1 mile warmup jog and then did 5x800 sprints with one minute rest in between. Then cool down 1 mile jog.

Today slow and easy 6 mile run with 50 pushups at each mile just to add something different in. You get some funny looks from people when you are doing push ups on the side of the road.

Well…in a moment of weakness and bad decisions, I donated an entry fee. 10.5mo… now to fill in the gaps with stepping stones, and build fitness, and more importantly, mental fortitude…..and figure out where I’m going to stay.

Said heck with the national champion, for the same money, I can do this, and turn it into a family vacation rather than just something solely centered around me.

Awesome man!!

I said I would never do an ultra. But this one sounds pretty cool. Got me thinking a little bit.

100mi… that’s the attempt anyway. Swore I’d never be able to complete a marathon when I signed up for it, now I’m eyeing a sub-4 finish for my first. Won’t know for sure if that’s the case but regardless, I’m exponentially further along in my fitness and training than when I signed up. I legitimately questioned just being physically fit enough to do sub 6 (course cutoff).

Two different beasts, but when I signed up for the marathon, I’d ran one time, a double digit mileage. That was 10mi.

Now I’ve gaslit myself into believing it’s not worth the sweat and time into doing anything less than 10 unless it’s a recovery run or speed session 🤣🤦🏼‍♂️

Been totally slacking updating in here. Still at it. Down 8lbs since I started. Just did an hour of HIIIT. My heart rate is def getting better. Sauna time. It was 85 yesterday and although I was out in the sun sweating, it didn’t really feel as hot as 85 .

That’s crazy!! I think I could talk myself into the 100k but not 100 miles!!

A friend of mine did a 100miler in Florida several years ago. He was a 5x Ironman including a Kona qualifier and he said it was the hardest thing he had ever done.

I wish you the best on your endeavor. It is fun to watch yourself get better and push yourself to do things you never thought possibe. Quite honestly that’s the only reason I do any of this. I’ll never win anything, but it’s that Type 2 fun.

If Im going to hurt, I want to hurt towards a buckle lol.

Which 100 did your friend do. I’ve listened to a few podcasts where people talked about the Jacksonville or Daytona or whatever 100 and then the Keys 100 on another. Both said they were brutal from heat and humidity as well as typical exposure of a coastal road 100mi

He did the one in the Florida keys. He finished in around 23 hours.

A PA I worked with did the same race and he actually crawled across the finish line. He had DNFed two previous 100 milers and said he was finishing no matter what.

Yeah I’ve heard it was absolutely brutal. I mean 100mi is 100mi, and I suppose there’s trade offs to everything.

Flat…no hills, but no top relief to coast down
Warm- no bulk clothes or chills, but obviously heat.

Cons, salt spray, sand, salt, sand, exposure with no relief to wind, rain, snow, sun, rain, wind, sun, repeat lol.

I need some professional advice. If I eat more DG shrimp, will I look like Adonis and feel great
They no longer sell it where I'm at 🥺
So now it's Wally World Scrimp....

And yes, Wally World scrimp 🍤 if eaten daily will make you a better swimmer than Aquaman 😎
Scientific proven fact 😁
Trust the science 😎

Was supposed to race yesterday for a tune up. Instead got some work done around the yard then went for a run. 8 total. Tried to “race” 10k and the wheels just fell off 😒. Oh well.

16mi this morning. Hopefully everything comes back around like it should. I think I overdid the last 20 and the week leading up to it, and haven’t recovered.

Well dreams of sub 4 may be dwindling… race course is updated due to Helene closures and elevation pretty much doubled.

First half of course had three hills that made up the majority of the topo change. Now the first half is also done again… I.e it’s done 2x so those hills are done twice.

Kind of excited though, I like hills. Just not 245ft in 0.8mi at mile 25 😒

That’s brutal and just torture!! No thanks!!

I just signed up for a local half marathon that’s on Saturday. I’ve ran the general course before and it’s got some decent hills but nothing too crazy. Should be just enough to make it interesting.

Just hoping to be able to maximize the downhills to make up for the additional uphill. Fine line between cruising and “making time” and killing the quads lol.

Nice! Which half? Probably going to pick up a half at LKN State Park in June with a buddy if my legs will let me by then.

Today was a beautiful day to run up a mountain 😎

Pilot Mountain must be a trail running mecca for Winston. Imma hair away from 62 and the 70 year old grandpa's trail running were smoking me like a Cuban Cigar. They came by so fast it nearly ruptured my eardrums from the vacuum 😁

Charity chase half here in Hickory. Several of us from the hospital are running it. Plan is to have a good time, compete against each other and then go drink beers afterwards and make excuses about how we could have done better 🤣

Got an early morning 5 miles in today. Started off easy at 9:15 for first 2 miles and then did last 3 at 8:10 pace avg. These early morning temps have been just about ideal for me.
