CVA Wolf or Optima?

If I was hunting with a ml more than I do, I think maybe I’d be more interested in something higher end. But for $399, the wolf with synthetic camo stock (I know I know, just aesthetics), stainless barrel, scope, and carrying case was worth it for me. Honestly every time I shoot it I enjoy it a little more. Won’t disagree with Dfitz and B Dubs about the lever tho. I’m a “really wanna touch the hot flame knowing it’s gonna burn me” kinda dude. Having that thing in front of the trigger well has be constantly wanting to hit it. For no reason. Great gun tho.
Update…totally bumped that lever accidentally while still hunting thru an area today. Could see why y’all like the other one. But the wolf is a dang good budget friendly gun

Optima! Break level like stated and handles the magnum loads… love mine… however I’m thinking of sellin it and picking up a accura instead…

I ain’t trying to tell a fella what to do but if I was just starting to get it muzzle loading. I’d look at the Traditions nitro fire or the CVA crossfire. A buddy of mine has a nitro fire and I was throughly impressed on how easy it was to load/unload, literally little to no smoke-accuracy was on point too. I could shoot a clover-leaf group at 100 yards with it.

I bought an optima that was shot twice by a feller for $275 with extras. I have buddies I hunt with that have optima’s and wolfs, there’s little difference but whatever works for you really with budget in mind there’s not that big of a difference you just get a little different option, the main thing I like about the optima is the barrel I’d say but the breakdown lever is nice

I have a wolf and it shoots lights out. I did have a problem with it. Not sure what caused it but last time I was hunting I cocked the gun then couldn't get the trigger to pull or release the hammer back down and I wasn't able to break the gun open to take primer out until I hit the breakaction trigger hard enough to pop it open. Gun had just killed a deer the week before and cleaned.

That can happen on a clean or dirty CVA if the breech plug isn't tight and seated properly. I had the same thing happen to mine a few years ago and a call to CVA recommended checking the breech plug.
