Actually the North Mills River Unit is in the Pisgah NF.
At that time all hunts on the Pisgah & Nantahala were regulated in that there were checking stations which required checking in & out every day.

Looks like a 336A. Would have been a "Waffletop" not factory D&T.

Another cool pic from FB. At first I thought they were bird hunting but looks like mostly rifles. Is that a sporterized Krag in the middle?

Nice run of old Savage 99s on this page, and I think that is Fred Bear with the moose. He came to the 1st Dixie Deer Classic and signed a camo hat for me. Wish I knew were it was now.
