College Basketball 2024-2025

how is the nascar guy good for unc- what are his qualifications?
Hell they could have got Richard Petty.
You went from getting the best football coach available to what? A racin man?
Or is unc planning on running the athletic department like a racing team?
I bet he'll be good at selling every inch of space to an advertiser- maybe the teams can wear racing like jerseys?
Are you actually asking or just trying to be funny? To me its pretty clear.

  1. Leadership and management experience - he will be overseeing the entire athletic department, not dissimilar to overseeing all aspects of a NASCAR team.
  2. Experience seeking sponsorships, contract negotiation, marketing - seems like a good skill set to have in the current NIL landscape.
  3. He's a lawyer with practice experience working with the NCAA - He has represented the SEC in media deals and represented the NCAA during the $10+ billion NCAA Tournament tv deal in 2010.
  4. Was on the advisory committee that helped hire Belichick.
The AD isn't a coach. The AD needs to be an executive who knows how to identify and hire quality coaches, fundraise, and build relationships.

Just like Bubba did

Just like Bubba did
If you were hiring an AD or any other executive would you want someone with experience at the executive level or some schmuck off a message board?

IDK if it’s a good hire or not, time will tell. But the number of armchair experts questioning credentials is comical.

well it is hilarious- the blue blood resorting to the last vestige of non blue blood sports for an AD- We are all laughing. The irony is past rich imo.

A great read on Dean's greatest accomplishment as a coach- the birth of the shot clock due to this debacle of an ACC championship game.
Thank you Dean!
Just a history lesson for those of you born after the fantastic four corner era.

Watched that game and remember it well. A wealth of talent available on the floor, less on the sidelines.

is Chansky an arm chair expert? Are His ideas comical? I think not.

For a collection of individuals who hate UNC or at least their "fans" y'all sure spend a lot of time and energy reading and talking about them.

Rent Free
lol

I just won my club's Member/Member golf tournament last weekend.........with my former UNC basketball player partner.

You think I hate UNC?

Kudos to any school reaching outside the incestuous hiring practices of inept ADs across all of college sports.

50% (?) of ADs have Peter Principled themselves into very high paying positions by running losing businesses.

74-79 is no weekend warrior, what % of golfers break 80, like 10%?

I’m a decent golfer and I’ve never broken 80.
I have no idea. My lowest index ever was in 1991ish....@ +2.6 Currently, I'm a 4.4

You could build a Walmart between those two.....lol. I got out of the golf business in 1995 and went to work for one of the members of the club I worked at (Quail Hollow Club). I proceeded to take a 7 yr sabbatical from golf and never missed it. I started back playing in 2002 and played for 3 yrs.....qualified for the NC Mid-Am and finished middle of the pack. I looked around and noticed everyone who beat me touched a club every day (I knew most of them). I quit again......this time for 17 yrs. I picked it up again in 2022 and joined my current club. Even if I'm not a weekend warrior, I feel like one.

I did do something a few weeks back I've never done. I parred my first 17 holes in a club tournament....and birdied the last hole. I've shot lower scores, but never had I finished with a clean card (no bogeys). My best days are behind me (playing), but I'm having more fun than ever.
