I’d want to forget anything involving the goat as a Duke fan, at least in the Roy Williams era of UNC. Roy owned him, all things considered on the national stage during his tenure at UNC. Overall, K is indeed the goat, but the one and done era wasn’t too kind to him.
From a non Duke fan's perspective of the UNC/Duke rivalry.......what I see is.....

UNC used to be the top program....at least this side of the Appalachian mountains. K came in and ruined all of that. So, any chance UNC fans get to tarnish him a bit, they take (with a vengeance). It used to be that UNC fans (from every Wal Mart chapter across the south) could boast. Again.....K came in and ruined all of that. It used ot be that they thought they had the best college basketball coach (again...this side of the Appalachians). K came in and ruined all of that.

UNC now sucks hind tit to Duke. K made that happen.....and UNC fans can't stand that.

I’d agree with you that K created that scenario at the end of Deans career and certainly between Dean and Roy. Once Roy came back to UNC though, Roy dominated K in March. To say Duke is the better program on the basketball court in the last 15 years is laughable.

I probably watched 8-10 games that he played in and all of his tournament games. Dude was lethal. Watched Buddy Hield play probably 6-8 games.
Hell, I didn't know Davidson was on TV 10 times while he was there. Regardless, it was good enough to see him get picked 7th overall. No doubt a great shooter. He just didn't have the platform Reddick had (playing at Duke).

You went and changed the narrative. I'm not talking about the last ( ). I'm talking about the two programs, OVERALL.

And, I actually don't care to debate it wth you or anyone else. It's my opinion.

DB be happiest if all ACC games were draws, that way you could lay into both teams. 😂

Which ACC fans are the most delusional?

Rank them in order (let's just say....oh....the top 3).

If you didn't go to Clemson or FSU and you've uttered (or, even thought) of any of these phrases in the last two years........"your" team is a candidate......

1. CFP Playoffs
2. "we" can play with anyone in the country

#1 is NC State BY FAR. They are still living on a win from 40 years ago. 2 and 3 I would probably say VT and Notre Dame or possibly Clemson. Plug and play any of the teams that are consistently bubble teams year in and out. They are the ones constantly saying "this is our year"

I know the answer desired is that Duke or UNC fans are the most delusional, but Duke and UNC are far from the most delusional in the ACC or CBB . They are 2 of the 4 most consistent programs going back before many on this board were born. Sure there are posts from lunatics on message boards but they typically have a screw loose or lack any knowledge of the sport. Funnily enough that success leads to delusional posts being just as likely to come from fans of those programs as haters.

Funnily enough, someone with a lack of knowledge of sports programs would think the CFP Playoffs was talking about basketball.

A discussion isn’t a debate. If you look at the success of a program, it’s generational. K owned the 90s and early 2000s until Roy joined UNC. Anyone in the peak of their college basketball fan stage (13-35) from 90-2010 views K as the man, because he was. Take my generation for example in this, I was dating my wife at UNC from 2005-2009, in which time UNC won two national titles and Duke was right there. Sure, Duke had been the better program to that point post Dean, but from 2005-Today, Duke hasn’t been better than UNC.

Roy was better than K in the last 15 years of their careers and K went out losing with title team after title team loaded with elite talent (just like Dean). So, a kid that’s 20 years old today that’s been watching basketball heavily view for 5-6 years view Duke or UNC as the better program? I’d say he views Nova and Kansas as better than both. Same way I view UCLA/Indiana/Kentucky, has beens.

Coach K full body of work makes him the goat, no argument from me. He laid the foundation for a blue blood dynasty from nothing. K isn’t Duke basketball anymore though and Duke has not survived huge coaching changes and won national championships with multiple coaches, yet. UNC has and the last UNC coach was better than Duke and K during his tenure. When you evaluate the programs overall, UNC has a longer history, has won across a longer span of time, has won more championships recently and has passed the coaching torch to two HOFers, not one.

The rivalry isn’t measured in head to head wins, it’s measured in March, period. The measuring stick between fledgling programs (see all of NC football here) is measure head to head. The big boys measure in National Championships.

You knew that when you posted though, you’re the papa troll, no doubt.

I’d trade those 4 losses to bring it to .500 for 2 nattys any day of the week.

Well, I suppose it depends on who you ask (or, which metric 'your' team leads in ;) ).

When I was a kid, K hadn't come along yet. UNC led in almost every metric. I don't suppose they ever counted on a K coming along.

But, he did. And the empire was replaced with another.

I went to NCSU and have a lot of friends / my wife that went to UNC, so from affiliation, financial support and impact on the economics of my household, I’d say UNC and NCSU are “my” teams. My hatred for Duke came from spending time on their campus and my experiences with those folks not being from NC, not wanting to be in NC and taking their influence elsewhere. Maybe that’s changed, but when I was in that part of the world, that campus didn’t represent this state in basically any way except geography.

The metric in college basketball royalty is final fours and national titles, that’s it. K as a coach has more than anyone, makes him the goat. Duke has nothing without him and until they prove they do, it’s K legacy, not theirs. UNC transcends Dean, as Roy eclipsed him.

You are probably right. I don’t think Carolina has anyone that can guard dalton out right now and Carolina hasn’t played anyone yet.

The picture was just a joke because the dean smith-Rick Barnes incident comes up every year

Word has it that Barnes stayed in town the next morning and waxed deans car. Dean told him back in the tunnel he was gonna whoop his ass if he didnt either wax his car or refinish the gym floor for disrepecting him.
