Chicken Stew?

I have a chicken stew recipe I like and I've cooked on the stove a few times. I've heard of using a deep frying turkey pot and fryer to cook chicken stew and I have that and if time allows and things settle down at work, I'd like to do an outdoor cooking. My question is, has anybody used this method? If so is the procedure for cooking the same as cooking on the stove, or should I cook certain parts seperate? Not after any secret recipes(unless you want to give one!) just would like to know before I jump into this. Thanks!!
