Bye Bye Birdie!

I had an Eastern phoebe nest under my deck. The chicks had just hatched then this guy/ gal came along and ate them. Rat snakes have to eat too!

Why the stick? Bare hand them. lol At least that seems like a good way to "catch" one, and apparently you didn't kill it. 🙂

The stick because I dont like getting bit! LOL! I relocated him about 100 yards away! Cool looking snake and a useful one at that with no threat to my dogs.

Old Mossy Horns
There's a bluebird box on the fence outside my office window and my wife & kids enjoy watching them raise broods every year. Last summer I was on a call when I heard a bird ruckus in the yard, so I spun my chair around and saw a snake going up the fence toward the chicks. All I said was, "OH :donk:donk:donk:donk! A SNAKE!" and ran out of my office.

By the time I got there he was all the way in the box.

When I got back to my call everyone was still in shock. LOL

The bluebirds didn't use that box this spring.

Twelve Pointer
Ive got some wrens that have nested in the same spot for 3 years under my front deck, and have had their nest raided by the resident rat snake every year about this time.
