I think they’re great to have on hand…just finished emptying my storage cans of gas & Staybil into the cars, and refilled them with fresh a couple weeks ago…do that in September every 2 years

Without power all day and finally drug my little Craftsman generator out (all 750 watts worth) and put in new gas. It would start but shut off as soon as it hit peak revs. Seemed like fuel starvation so took off the carb and flushed it out good with carb cleaner. That did the trick as soon as it ran for a while and stabilized so hooked up my refridgerator and ran until the fridge shut off and was getting ready to go to a friend's house and power up her two fridges when the power returned and all that frustration was for naught. Now I have to demob the generator and stick it back in it's hideyhole.

And still haven’t wired the house for it. Got now power tonight.
If you have a 220 plug in, you can shut off the main breaker on the outside so it won’t back feed to the power lines but back feed to the inside breaker panel and get power to selected breakers you keep on.

Run it out of gas and drain the tank.

A few years ago, I started doing that to my lawnmower, drained the tank then ran it to get the carb empty. I did the same for a smaller generator. I had to replace both carbs. Guy at the shop told me it was because running it dry left it open to moisture getting in. So now I run ethanol free gas with Sta-Bil and try to remember to crank it a few times a year. But it sounds like you have had success with just running it dry. Is there something else you do, like close the fuel valve, etc.?

I run it with the gas petcock closed until it shudders then shut if off.
But stabil is always in the gas as well.

best thing to do is get most of the gas out. say let it run out of gas but that leaves a lilte bit in the carb and line. Then dump a quart of VP 4 cycle fuel in it and run 5 mins to get all the old gas out. shut off ...good for 3 years at least. diaphrams dont dry out either.
