If you think a bear lives solely on your 65 acres then you're mistaken. Even a sow has a much larger range than that. That said, there's nobody here saying you shouldn't be able to protect yourself and/or your property. However, having grown up in bear country I can tell you that dealing with bears is 99% common sense. Don't leave food out and they'll continue on their way without stopping long. If you're a serious birder then you know that bird feeders just spread disease anyway. The moral of this story is to use some common sense and not be an idiot.

Yes Mack it is very productive. I have six food plots of clover, oats, wheat and soybeans depending upon time of the year. I have two ponds and I had timbered about 20 acres to let grow up as cover for game. I have had bears, bobcats, yotes and lots of deer. Just don't want a bear that close to my house with cubs. Just like I shoot yotes, snakes or other animals I do not want around me. How would you like someone to come to your house/land and tell you to quit killing flies, snakes, groundhogs, etc. that you did not want to be around. Some here sound like Socialist they want to tell you how to live on your own land and what to kill and not to kill.
As to calling the law, any kind of law, it would take them at least an hour to show up if you are lucky. I do not need the government to take care of me. To many people here now that what on the government to take care of all there needs. The last time I called the Game Warden for someone who had spot lighted and killed a deer at night with a light, I was asked if I knew who it was. I told the GW I was pretty sure and we could go the the person's house, oh no said the GW not unless I have positive ID or a plate number off truck. GW would not even come out to my land. Let Obama take care of you and yours but not for me.

I don't care how productive it is....your whole 65 acres could be all food plot and that would still not support 1/100 of a bear. and as a matter of fact I did own 52 acres in Alamance co that had a bear on it every now and then.....no way would I have ever shot tha bear unless it was in full charge. No one has came to My "house" and told me not to shoot anything. I am smart enough to know that I cant shoot it unless my life is danger....ex: full charge.
Note- a bear on your property does not put you in any danger. You are more than likely to be killed by a relative than a bear. ck the numbers on that stat. you know there are certain laws people have to follow. thanks goodness you aren't my neighbor with your its mine attitude and you are not having bear with cubs on your land.

I never said the bear or bear live totally on my 65 acres. I don't don't even live on the 65 acres, but if a bear charged me I see nothing wrong with killing it. Same as I would a dog, yote or any thing else that charged me. Geez learn to read. I have seen over 40 deer day in my food plots and I am not fool enough to think they live there all the time. But I still don't want you or any one else to tell me what is right or wrong. That is between me and the Lord.

Nobody said you couldn't defend yourself if a bear charged you. I work with the things and wouldn't hesitate to put a bullet in one if I felt my life or family were in danger. What we've been saying all along is this guy acted stupidly, and then wanted the WRC to compensate for his stupidity. If you decide to move into bear country there's certain things you pretty much just accept. You have to secure your trash, bird feeders are generally a bad idea (especially left out all night), etc… You're expected to use your head for something other than growing hair.
