Amish Disaster Aid Blocked in WNC

A Google search shows Amish helping build tiny homes, for Helene victims, but no mention of rejected due to code.

If true, imagine it would be more likely in the bigger cities than smaller mountain communities…

I read where there were some storage sheds rejected because they didn't have heat, water, kitchens, toilets!!

Tiny homes remain a mystery...........evicting people may be fake news, 🤷‍♂️

I know an inspector and while I have not heard of anyone or group specifically, tiny homes/shed have to meet code before they can be lived in. As he said can you imagine having your home wash away then get a living space and it burn to the ground due to faulty wiring.
While I may not agree he has a point. And some of these were not declared as temp housing but homes.
I don’t have the answers just more questions

building codes have become as much of a downfall as it has a help.codes are only there for the banks and lenders to protect their investments in the future. as a former firefighter, I can tell you that the modern houses can be the most dangerous. People lived in this country until fairly recently without electricity and plumbing and hvac. it never fails to amaze what people feel they can't live without. not many understand what survival truly is. this country, which includes myself, is spoiled. I grew up in the 70s and 80s in the backwoods of Maine. cabin with no electricity, plumbing, phone, etc. friends in school would tell me about how bad the storm was and how long they were outta power, but to me , it just snowed...that's all. we've created some of our own panics and so called crisis. but when there's a real crisis, codes should go away and let's protect our people for the short term first and then the long, 2x4s being 24in apart instead of 16in doesn't matter if ya freeze to death in a tent. just my ramblings

Just because they're Amish doesn't mean they're not built to code. My brother uses Amish to build small warehouses for businesses like plumbers, HVAC and pressure washers to store their vehicles and have some office space. He never has any issues with his buildings.

Just for reference....there's no electrical, HVAC or plumbing in these units. What is "code" for a glorified, temporary storage shed?

On skids of foundation? +/- 400 square foot? Any wall greater than 12 feet in length? These are the questions for a storage shed. Habitable space is totally different. OSFM says fake news

I have heard that some are running into roadblocks with some counties permits depts, but have not heard of anything regarding folks being evicted. I would love to know why FEMA has been dragging their feet on getting temp shelter for these folks. The gov't (local, state and fed) have shown their complete ineptitude in response to this disaster.
