and why add two more games to the series if that is the case.. they dodged them this year specifically because they new they were out gunned. Heck with a limited crowd and in Winston they should have had an advantage.. they are used to playing to an empty stadium ;)

I can think of a few ACC losses (historically mediocre teams) that would probably hurt your SOS and ranking more. If App has a season like the last 4-5, they will probably be ranked inside the top 50 all season, and likely inside the top 40 with no bad losses.

Simply put, anything non conference that isn't cartel 5 has to be a win game. App isn't a powder puff. They know it.

Why schedule them at all? Had to be some value in there somewhere? Or did the legislature force them to play App too?
Normally, there's money involved. They had agreed to a home-and-home agreement. In 2017 they played in Boone, now it was App's turn to visit them. The App game very well could sell out; it's close to App's fan base as well as Wake's.

Money changes hands; I don't know the details of their agreement, but as an example BYU and Mizzou had such an agreement and the visiting team is paid $325,000 in each situation. Tickets are sometimes exchanged too; IE They'll give each other 5,000 tickets to sell.

In 2017 Georgia paid App State 1.25 Million to play in Athens. And, ASU's head coach got a $10K bonus for playing a power 5 opponent in their stadium. Penn State paid App State $1.2 Million to travel to Pennsylvania and for the 2018 season opener. Due to a variety of factors I doubt that Wake paid that much for them (There's less risk for App, less travel, etc) but I wouldn't be surprised if Wake paid 3-400K.

All of that to say, why waste that game if you can't make money on it? That's one that will sell a lot of tickets. You're already limited to one non-conference game, make it as much of a Cupcake game as you can and/or make an economic decision.

I'm familiar with that sort of thing. I was actually being facetious and pointing out the obvious to BoonDock. Who apparently couldn't see the value because he was too busy looking down his nose on APP. It was right under his nose. :)

ACC medical adviser says let's play ball!

I love the common sense approach here:

The chair of the ACC medical advisory group believes a fall season can be played safely, which is one of the biggest reasons the league remains on course to start the season in September.

Dr. Cameron Wolfe, a Duke infectious disease specialist, told Sports Business Daily that doctors have learned enough over the past six months to manage the risk.

"We believe we can mitigate it down to a level that makes everyone safe," Wolfe told The Daily. "Can we safely have two teams meet on the field? I would say yes. Will it be tough? Yes. Will it be expensive and hard and lots of work? For sure. But I do believe you can sufficiently mitigate the risk of bringing COVID onto the football field or into the training room at a level that's no different than living as a student on campus."

Last week, the ACC set an 11-game league schedule to begin the weekend of Sept. 12. Ten of those games are in conference, which this football season includes Notre Dame, meaning all schools will follow the same testing protocols. All nonconference opponents are required to adhere to the same testing protocols as well.

But Wolfe has also told commissioner John Swofford and league athletic directors that there is no way to cut the risk to zero and that they have to be comfortable with some level of risk tolerance.

"You can't tell me that running onto a football field is supposed to be a zero-risk environment," Wolfe continued. "Look at all of the regular sporting injuries that we accept as a certain level of risk as part and parcel of football. Now the reality is that we have to accept a little bit of COVID risk to be a part of that."

I agree. There is risk in everything we do. This virus has a 99% survival rate if you get it and that is factored in with all populations. I'd be willing to be the survival rate of these athletes would be around 99.9%.

No doubt its strange year and ND could for sure fold their not true top 5 team anyway no matter what ranking say. But even if Clemson has issues they still winning ACC. And I'm a ND fan and not Clemson fan but I can look objectively.

They ended Trevor Lawrences' run at the record for no interceptions. I think in the 1st qtr.... So he threw for 404 yards and 5 TD's in the first half.
ACC record for all time beatdown score.
Starters rode the bench 2nd half.

Clemson is gonna be hard to stop for sure but it's early seen teams peak early in past but they have experience. Bama is every bit as good on offense but they could never stop Clemson offense with that D they have Moses is back for them but he is not same player as before injuries Bama D has big holes and Lawrence would tear them up. Ga is no threat to many QB issues. Have wait see if ohio st can challenge. Always the quandary in college getting that great offense and defense in same year Clemson is close as I've seen.

UNC played good today, The Ms and I went to the game and had a good time. The mask police were out in full force but other than that is was a fun day. Came home and took a Victory Ride on my motorcycle to Jordan and watched the sunset. Awesome day.
gonna sit back , watch some football and maybe work on a video or 2.

Yep I was happy to watch us win the toilet bowl this year 😂

Dang. And they lost Skowski on defense. Dabo said he needs surgery, gonna be out weeks.

All Trevor needs is 2 negative tests, and 1 negative test Saturday am and he should be good to go.... worked for Saint Nick.

Edited...... read the article. I guess the rules are different for players, compared to coaches.

The rules are different for each league... ECU sat their starting QB and 3 other key players for 2 weeks because of a false positive the exact same week Saban tested out of his false positive. The SEC allows the ability to test out of a false positive. The AAC does not. ECU QB paid for his own testing and proved it was a false positive. Still couldn't play. Frustrating to say the least.

like i said (post 283) anything can happen, better now than later for clemson.
If i remember correctly they had a huge outbreak early so should be getting herd immunity soon?

Which is probably going to hurt teams that have gotten a late start "protecting" players. Big 10 teams are going to struggle with large outbreaks just like all the other schools that started earlier.

Glad its not a 1 man show down in Clemson.
Next man up...QB#5 will step up and they'll beat BC. Train keeps rolling.
Go Tigers !!

There will be some QB drop off. But Clemson is so good in the trenches, they can still beat the snot out of BC running a "vanilla offense" with a true freshmen QB.
