2008 - Meineke Car Care Bowl. I was there, sitting in the back row of the stadium. Hakeem Nicks played really well, IIRC, and UNC nearly won. WVU fans were rowdy and drunk before they got to the stadium. Then, it was a pretty balanced crowd, but I would have to give it to WVU fans 60/40%. My takeaway was that 1) there are a lot of WV fans in NC and 2) WV travels very well and 3) they are a bunch of drunks.
But that was a different time. A time when players cared about bowl games, and it meant something. A time when there was loyalty and pride in a program. This new college football where you can play for multiple different schools, and it's all just a means to get paid one way or the other is an inferior product to watch. With the majority of UNC's best players sitting out, I wouldn't have driven the 40 minutes down to BOA if I had free tickets. They had no chance of winning with the team they put on the field.
