despite my success with the factory Norma load, I went ahead and started tinkering with Berger 175 Elite Hunters and Nosler 175 ABLRs using H1000.

today I got a 0.157 inch, 3 shot, 100 yd group with the Elite Hunters going at 2920 fps. Only 3 shots, but I think I am on to something.

best I have come up with using the ABLRs is 0.900 inches going at 2904 fps.

Stick with the bergers, I’ve never got the ablr to shoot sub 1/2.

yeah. I had them shooting about .75 in my 280 AI, but later found much better success with Barnes TTSXs. Hence the pile.

Today I sent an email asking if anyone has been able to drop any notes in the file on my rifle yet. We are at 7.5 weeks of an estimated 4-6 week turnaround. Granted they received it in the mail on Christmas Eve, so I could see them not even really getting started back to work until January 6th.

Never got an email, so I called late last week. Spoke to nice guy. Couldn’t tell me much other than it had been inspected and was in line to go to the smith’s bench for repairs. I asked what the repairs were and he couldn’t see any notes on that.
He said that he couldn’t see where I had asked for an accuracy test and asked me if I would like one.
Me: Couldn’t hurt.

My advice is free, even though I’ve quite a few built by great smiths all over the country try. Swift creek rifles will make you a killer gun and he’s local. I can’t help give you his contact.

He’s even got a few receivers of mine I could pass on at a savings if it’s a configuration you need

I don’t really know what I would change. I love the feel for a hunting/packing rifle.

It’s light and smooth, hinged floor plate, pushes (recoils) back rather than up.

Maybe a 3 position safety and less barrel cooling.

Grew up a M70, Rifleman’s Rifle man/kid.

Maybe you’d change: it would shoot quarter minute?

Shot many a ragged hole with a M70 Classic Sporter in .30-06 when I was 14-20s years old. I also used to knock down every dove in the sky with a single shot 20ga NEF, so times change.
I remember the old folk laughing cause if three doves flew over, I would shoot one, reload the single shot and shoot a second dove before the flock passed.
No more. And I have fancier shotguns now.

I have thought about re-barreling that M70 ‘06 to a 280 AI.
