You don't think squirrels, deer, racoons, bears and various other animals eat acorns and again squirrels and racoons den in those mature trees? If you don't know how mature hardwoods benefit squirrels you really need help, they help deer also, they just need some edge areas also.

Those oak trees were full of gray squirrels.

Acorns are about all most game has around here on game lands.

Also since the CURE program was set up there 10 years ago the deer herd has done nothing but decline. That is even after the wildlife folks trapped out all or most of the feral pigs.

Considering all responses, a huntable herd of elk would most likely be supported and accessible to hunters if established on public land
