Dragging butt a little but I'm out the door with some coffee. Still yet to hear a gobble this year. Heading down to a piece that's been very reliable but gets a lot of pressure. Hopefully I can get on one. Good luck and be safe everybody.

Back to work today, Went yesterday and saw large group of hen's and Jake's but no longbeard's in the group looks good for next year if they make it until then but I need one more gobbler that wants to play the game.

Warm gusty morning in the high country. No gobbles so far. Usually can at least hear a couple a mile away. Helene squashed my plan for a 6 mile loop😡

Silent so far do think I heard one drumming on a ridge next to me but geese are homkiand flying around been them I'm sure some have been killed here ,seen 2 Jakes yesterday evening.looked like the 2 that was with the gobbling strutting Jake last week. Back to work tomorrow.so if it has a beard today I'm taking it.except a hen. Only heard one gobbling Sunday on private in Brunswick co. Been the quietest opener I can remember.

I’ve got to work the next two days. Fine by me. Getting my work days over with while the wind is blowing. The birds in the mountains aren’t quite ready.

Yeah some places are baaaaaaad. and will be for a long time.

Bright side I saw a hen on top of the mountain Saturday where probably 80% of the trees were down. Never know, but it does make traveling tough.

Freaking blew it after I won the hour and a half battle. Got him to 20 yards and I just had to move my head just as his was clearing the hill but obscured by brush. He's a little boogered but back across the hill gobbling. Trying to plan a way I can drop back down and go around to get on his level.

No gobbles so far but it’s a beautiful morning. I’ve got a pair of Tom’s and a pair of Jakes that I get pics of together some afternoons and this morning called up the pair of Jakes, also called up a hen shortly later but it looked like she was alone.

Got to go take care of a toothache here in an hour or so but I hope to make it back for a PM hunt, I’ve had a lot more camera activity around 2:00 the last few days

Heard a pickup or something with mud tires turn around in the driveway and then slow down to stop on the other side of my neighbor's house around 8am. That's a good sign of a turkey in the pasture here. Going to keep my eye on the pasture today and maybe try the blind calling for a roosting gobble about dark this evening. Keeping my shotgun and camo coveralls in the truck for a quick move if I see any big black birds out there.

I wish my grandson was with me
He could have heard the grandest case of hen yelping imaginable.
Then again he might forever decide that’s the way he wants to call. 😜

She was just bizzare in the length and number of yelps. I should move though because nothing gobbled at her.
copied for clarity-
She got me. Gobbler started in woods about 9:15 exactly where i was trying to kill him yesterday but today I was where he was yesterday.
As i get up to move to him I hear her with a mini burst- she probably only yelped twenty times in a row. :)
He's in a known place and i get above him mostly between her and him.
I forgot about her as he was answering and moving back and forth- ready (I thought) to break at any time.
Then he doubled gobbled and I shut down calling. Thought for sure he was on his way.
He never made another sound- she got to him I think/hope.

I want them to breed so their offspring can continue their fine vocal skills. Especially the hens- this one is a joy to behold with her machine gun yelps.
I heard no other turkeys but really these two made up for it.

Called it a day. Back to work for a couple days tomorrow. Hopefully he's still there when I get back to him.
