308 marlin xs7 load

Unfortunately there is no good answer for this question as different rifles or barrels will most likely group the exact same loads very differently. Your best bet is to choose the ammo brand and bullet type you prefer for the intended use and get a few different loads with that bullet in different weights & head to the range. Do keep in mind that a 1-12 is one of the slower twists you will find in a .308 Win so a 165 gr is probably the heaviest you want to try as heavier/slower fodder may not spin fast enough to stabilize. For all around hunting or target shooting a 150-165 gr bullet is probably the most popular and the 165 is the ideal weight for a .308 projectile in terms of ballistic efficiency factoring in the velocity, BC and other factors of the projectile.

If you reload you can choose a preferred bullet style & weight and make groups of loads starting at the minimum and working up incrementally to just under the maximum load with your powder of choice. Group each variant and see which groups best then you have the load your rifle prefers. Regardless of the ammo source once you find the particular recipe that works best either load to that specification or buy plenty of that particular ammo (preferable of the same lot number).
