28 Gauge Gun

I picked up this 28 gauge Remington Wingmaster Model 870. I bought it from my neighbor that said he didn’t want it anymore. His dad give it to him but had no one to pass it down to. I usually don’t get rid of guns and try to find a purpose for them. I know all about the tss for turkey loads and have talked with Hawglips. My question is will it work since you can only use 2 3/4 inch shells. Also it is a improved cylinder barrel with no screw in chokes. I’m not sure the improved cylinder barrel is going to have a good pattern. Can the barrel be threaded for a choke or does that ruin the value of the gun. I have no plans of selling this gun so not sure if the value matters. I have other shot guns for turkey hunting but all the talk about 28 gauges got me thinking. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I have a 12 gauge Wingmaster, was wondering if it could be fitted with a 28 gauge barrel, is the receiver bigger than a 28 gauge?

Thanks Woodmoose, that what I am thinking.....believe the receiver on the smaller gauges weighs less and thus, will have a different size fit for the barrels.

I dont think it would either. The receiver is smaller it looks like. The reason I want to carry the 28 because it is very light.

Been using the 12 Wingmaster several years in 26" barrel. Replaced the Walnut stock with a Remington black synthetic and then got it dipped in Bottomland....reduced the weight to around 7 lb and shoots a Carlson Longbeard choke and longbeards.

I've got a 28 gauge wingmaster and it came with a factory skeet choke barrel that wouldn't work for what i wanted to use if for so i just bought a new barrel that takes screw in chokes think i gave around 150$ for mine.

All 28 ga have been 2-3/4" until fairly recently. So, all the 28 ga shells I kill turkeys with are 2-3/4"....

Got one that is 1-5/8 oz....
And that 1 5/8oz nasty and rough on turkeys, if it was me I would send the barrel to sumtoy and let him thread and choke it if I planned to turkey hunt it.
