2024 Lever Action Challenge

7mm-08

Twelve Pointer
Thanks brother, need to hunt this piece. Tired of carrying my 300 win mag Sendero to shoot 75 yards.
I got my scope off eBay. I’ve gotten several scopes off eBay. Hmmm, I got a gloss for my No. 1 off eBay, but I’m not sure if that would fall under the requirements for lever action challenge? It’s a lever, that runs the action, just a bit more primitive I suppose???

A gloss Leupold would be sweet but the prices have gotten as high as giraffe nuts. I'll get flamed but I would go with this. They are great scopes for the price and on sale now. I have one on a 45/70 and one on a slug gun and they are holding up fine.

A Leupold 2-7x33 VX Freedom with a hunt plex reticle would be my top choice if the price doesn't bother you but they seem to be hard to find.

I’m 100% comfortable with a 3-9x40mm on a lever action. I used to know a fellow who tagged out every year with his Marlin 336 with a Tasco Pronghorn 3-9x. He made plenty of shots out to 200+ yards!

Burris 2.75 scout on the 94 Dad bought me back in 81. Have not been able to see open sights for years. Got in from work today and went for a walk around the mnt on a old logging road. About a half mile from the house there he was above me on top of the ridge, 75 yards, at the shot he went down the backside of the ridge into a very steep laurel thicket. I had on my work cloths and shoes, not good. Back to the house, changed, went back and dagum he was only 15 feet down the other side. 20241205_175947.jpg

Last day of gun season here in S.E. Ohio. Last two years the old Marlin.444 brought home the meat. Not looking good for this year, less than an hour left for me and bucks have been tough to come by.

Looks just like the one my Dad has. I've always likes the 444.

I bought that scope (2-7x Leupold)well before the rifle. I was 16 at the time, so it's 46 years old. The rifle is a 1972 model and even though I have other straight walls it seem to be the one I grab to bring up each year.
