2024 Lever Action Challenge

This started a couple of years ago. Bunch of us take our lever guns around Thanksgiving week. Post your harvest pics with your lever gun and just as important, post pics of you and your lever gun even if you aren't successful.

Saturday just starts our NW gun season.
Or, preferably get NCWRC to start the gun season statewide when the Eastern season starts ?
Whichever one is easier...

Well, I have been hunting bears already.....just can't get that rascal to step out during the day.

This was the longest shot I’ve taken with mine. 100 yards on the dot. These 170 grain core-lokts fold them up…

I’ve shot 5 with mine and none of them took a step.

My eyesight won't allow me to shoot iron sights or even a peep anymore. I've been through them all. I wish I could. My gun is my dad's circa 1987 336 and I have a Lo Pro Redfield 1 3/4-5 on it from the same time frame. My brother and I bought it for him in 88.

LOL, young green horns...
at almost 60...I use the 6x on the 73'...is small....authentic and not as easy to use as most would think. It pulls a 300 yard target in to look like it is at 100 yards.

Here is a beautiful example of an original. I wish mine came back that far!!

My choice this year will be a Savage 99 with a Leupold Freedom scope. (hate the matt finish of today's scopes) spitting a 100 gr Hornady Whitetail American in no other than a 243 Winchester bullet.

My dad can't hunt this year, cataract surgery. He was 80 last year and did this.
Winchester 86 45-70 165 yards. That is also his Jeep Unlimited...LOL!!

Bought this Marlin 336 in 35Rem from a member here(sorry, I can't remember who).

Still haven't killed anything with it. Maybe this is the year!

Carrying an old Marlin 30-30 rifle that's been in the family since the 1980s; it was my father's originally, my youngest brother had it for awhile, and he left it with me when he went overseas. I fitted it out with a Skinner peep and orange fiber optic front sight to help my old eyes.

I've got 2 30-30's. a henry and a 336. both open sites currently but the eyes need a scope. Just have not put one on either yet. would love to shoot one with open sites like my 1st deer i harvested at 14 but confidence is not there and I would hate to make a poor shot.

All this matters not since deer have been non-existent in my little patch of woods.

Marlin Trapper in 45-70. High shoulder shot placement made up for the underwhelming performance of Hornady LeverEvolution 325 gr. Will probably switch to Barnes 300 gr TSX Pioneer or Buffalo Bore expanders.

Here's what they look like. I used to own 5, down to 2 now as I downsize due to age. Sold the .243 carbine, .243 rifle, and .308 carbine. Feel like I am cheating in the Lever Action Challenge, because it shoots like a bolt action....

That one is in pristine condition it looks like.

My dad has a model 100 in 308, but not in that good of shape.

Penciled through at 100 yds. Entry and exit looked pretty much the same which tells me there was little, if any, expansion.

Last day of Coyote hunting before rifle season starts tomorrow for deer here in Burke County. This little spike popped out this morning, watched him feed, came down the slope, across the pinch point, then up into the pines! Maybe he will poke his head out tomorrow morning!!
