2023 Fresh Water Catch

My youngest son has been wanting to fish on the boat, but due to crazy work schedules he hasn't been able to yet. This past Sunday we went to Lake Wylie then last night we put in at Betty's Ford on Lake Norman. Haven't catfished in a lil bit, been busy walleye and striper fishing. The Sunday Wylie trip was basically piddling around watching my granddaughter catch shellcracker and white perch all by herself. Son did catch a 20lb blue and about 10 good channel cats. Last night on Norman we targeted catfish. It took a while to figure out where they were and what they wanted, but once we did it was fun. They weren't interested in cut bait or live bait. Every single catfish came off of chunks of chicken breast. Had a 34 a couple of 23/24s, 19, 17 and a 14lb blue and a lone 8lb channel. Did catch a 21 inch hybrid on nightcrawlers off the bottom. Had one on that we couldn't slow or turn, would have been nice to land it. Still a fun night, but I'm paying for it today.

Fished the first 2 hours this morning trying to make the buzzbait and the frog work and it just wasn’t happening. Picked up the white swim jig and the rest was history. Gave them a beating today and had perfect conditions for post spawn fish!

Four Pointer
Fished Lake Norman this afternoon for bass. Only had 3 bites and landed one spot that was just over 2Lbs. My youngest landed this 12lb catfish while fishing for bass. He was super exited. Great time and a great memory. This is what it’s all about!

Finally got out again and snapped a few photos. Had a great afternoon chunking a Carolina rig on some stump covered flats. Caught 13 with biggest being 4 pounds. Water temp 68-70 degrees mostly 6-12 feet deep.
