Got some revenge on the fish today after not doing so hot yesterday. Boated a dozen or so in a couple hours this afternoon and little man was having a blast winding them in. It got cloudy this afternoon and I thought the topwater bite might fire but all the would do is come up and nip at it. They would bite the follow up plastic bait every time though. Most fish were in the 3 lb range.

My friend who lives to catch fish on off the wall "new" stuff ambushed me today with this deal.

I refused to play with it - He caught 15 - I caught five. :)

last week it was zoom Rocky TOP colored worms (yes volunteer orange)..
Now this monstrosity.
Believe it or not this is not the worst hard head shellacking I have had- In the early days of the chatterbait I was schooled one day 38 to 7.
I just know if they would hit the CB they would certainly bite my spinnerbait.
Wrong.

How did he have it rigged? Just on a texas rig? I have looked at those several times. Looks interesting. I think it would get bit.

Tomorrow should be good. Taking my dad to my most secret, sacred, special piece of public water that I know of…..and I haven’t been there all summer so I’m hoping that they haven’t been harassed much lately and are happy to see us. We will see what the weather does. Looking for a big day.

We had a good day. Caught a pile of 4 pounders. Never boated one over 5. Dad and I both had an opportunity at a 6 plus but both got us hung in brush and broke off. Caught fish on everything…..frog, choppo, creature bait, swim jig, regular jig, shakey head, squarebill. There really was no pattern. Fish were all over the place. Until next week. Also caught my first mudfish of the year. I can’t believe it took me this long.

Took the oldest daughter with us last night and she and her mother caught 2 that could have passed for twins. Wife hooked a good flathead and it broke off close to the bank. She also had another wrap her up and got off. Blues were caught on cut bream, and flathead were caught on live bluegill.

We dodged the storm and knocked a few in the head this evening. Nothing huge but caught some decent fish. Little man was cranking on a 3 pounder and the fish came up and jumped right beside the boat and surprised him and he fell back flat on his back and never skipped a beat. He started laughing and kept on feeling. It was epic.

New Moon moon times save the day. well it didnt hurt that the clouds and wind picked up at the same time. :)
Caught seven- lost three between 12 ands 1:30. Prior to that it had taken all day to catch 13.
Usually see deer up when they are biting mid day but didnt see any today.
Also caught 27 bite sized crappie and a big citation sized google eye. Worthless piece of fish flesh as far as giving a fight.
Surprisingly no cats.

My dad beat me like a red headed step child today out of the back of the boat. All of his fish were around this size and I lost count of how many he caught and I caught 7 and none of mine were over 2 lbs. Had an opportunity at a 6 pounder but there was a tree between it and me when I hooked it and we had a parting of the ways when it got in the tree. I have been experimenting with maxxscent plastics lately and thought I was getting another bite or 2 than my old tried and true zoom stuff but today the fish wouldn’t touch it and dad wore them out on the zoom trick worm all day. Due to the storms Sunday and Monday the water still wasn’t as hot as it should be. Saw it from 76-81.

Went to river today. The bream bite was sparse on beatle spin. Switched over to catfish. That bite was steady in places. Nothing on cut bream. All the bites were on chicken breast. Was pulling couple rigs with trolling motor. Went back and forth across river only place got bites was in 12 to 14 ft of water. Thought they be deeper. Tryed some 25 to 35 feet didn’t have a bite. Caught all but on on rig with planer board even though the board want running in water like it should. These were some I made. Guess going have tweak it some. Not sure what they liked different about planer board.

I’m guessing the water temps have peaked. They were down yesterday to 82.
Until we get the “fill up the lakes event” it should be some easy catching.
I’ll be there to confirm as often as possible. 😊

I am going today and where I am going the water is the lowest it has been all summer, so it should be good

Well it was a good guide trip this afternoon. My brother joined the little man and myself and little man had a fun time giving his uncle some fishing tips! My brother had a really good afternoon. Two times in a row that I’ve had my butt kicked from the back of the boat. I had a great big one that came unhooked by the boat. 3rd trip on a row where I have failed to connect on a big one. We caught 1 over 5, 1 over 4 and several 3 pounders. Boated 18 in 3.5 hours. Not a bad day.

These 2 will probably be taking a lot of peoples money in a few years when little man is old enough to tournament fish.

Exceptional day in the tin boat. Got my groove back after slumping the past couple trips. The popper got most of the play this morning, and then the rest of the day I had a spinning rod, locked in my hand. Thankfully, I stumbled onto what the fish wanted fairly early and it stuck all day. We ended up with 35 or so on the day.

That will be it for me for a couple weeks. Closing on a house and moving over the next couple days and vacation next week. From the looks of the weather next week the summer bite might be gone for good. There is already a subtle early fall pattern going on in certain places so it might be full blown if we can avoid floods while I’m gone.

I hope you are wrong on the summer bite.
On your popper
Did we talk about using two feathered trebles?
I mentioned it to someone on the forum years ago. I went to two on the P70 and increased the hookups by a big margin.
You might play with that just to guve your Dad something to ridicule 😊
My father thought it was stupid until he saw how many were hooked on the front hook instead of the back.
Great catch. I can’t go until later in the week and it’s killing me.

I use 2 feathered hooks a lot of the time but I didn’t have two on today. It probably would’ve turned the few misses into catches.

I see 70 degree days several days next week on the long range forecast and rain. But since I typed that earlier the forecast has already changed some. At this point I don’t mind the cooler weather but the water levels are very important. We went to a lake yesterday that was over 2 ft low ans caught some fish on a shallow crankbait in places I don’t catch them typically until October and today to a river that was full to the brim. Thought it was weird for it to be that high but I guess the storms last week kept it up. Also caught most of my fish on a wacky rig. I have never caught so many fish on a weightless bait this far past the spawn like I have this year. I almost didn’t grab my spinning rod and did at the last minute before leaving. If I hadn’t we wouldn’t have caught 50% of what we had. Dad still caught them on a weighted plastic bait but not at the rate that I was. Been a weird summer.

Not schooled but certainly educated with this bait today. My "New Bait " friend brings something every trip.
Needs no weight to cast even on casting tackle like a creature senko I guess.

He had green pumpkin. I caught more on baby brush hog but it was close. Biggest was on the brush hog a 7lber.
Should still be out there but baby sitting calls. Nice weather to fish.

Caught more of this river chicken Sunday night and last night, also caught some arm length channel cats. The bite is strong for us right now

What is the sink rate on that bait compared to a senko?
