Curious to hear what your set up is for deer season - Caliber, scope, etc.

Hunted with a 308 for many years but loving my Browning 6.5

Old reliable is my Browning A-bolt II in .280. Had it nearly 25 years now. Federal Nosler Partitions are my preferred ammo for it.

I bought a Marlin 1894 in .44 mag that will get some use this year in some short range situations & I’m looking forward to that. It is fun to shoot. Regular lead soft points for it, I think the federal fusions is what I have the most of, but a box of Hornafy Leverevolutions is still around to feed it too. No real difference in point of impact at 75 yds b/n the two.

Mission Sub-1 crossbow for the next few weeks. Rage 2 blade crossbow mechanicals for it & I am experimenting with the G5 Montec fixed blades too this year.

Single shot Rossi youth .410 & sharp Buck folding knife for dispatch purposes round out the arsenal I’m willing to discuss. I’d hate for that 2021 boating accident to have too many casualties.

i have an old VX iii on my Browning xbolt, 6.5. Have thought about replacing it a few times but it’s never really let me down! If you were gonna replace for similar cost, what would you go with?

Depends on which stand. The one in the woods has no shots over 60 yards so I'll take my H&R 357 Remington Maximum topped with a Leupold M8 4x, loaded with Hornady 180 gr XTP's. In the field stand I might have 150 yard shot so I'll tote my Browning BAR 25-06 topped with a gloss Leupold VX2 3-9x40, loaded with Winchester 120 gr PEP's. Then again I could just take the Henry single shot 45/70 with hand loaded 300 gr Remington hp's at 2100 fps to either spot. It wears a Redfield Revolution 2-7x33 scope. She thumps hard on both ends. Decisions decisions.....

I've got a Browning that I plan to use this year, it's the one with a shotgun hull near the buckle. Size 44 I believe. It holds my breeches up so it should be good to kill an ol deer.

Same gun, scope and ammo that I've been using for 43 years - Remington 700 BDL 30-06, Redfield 3-9x scope and Remington 150gr Core-Lokt. I will also hunt with my 100 year old Winchester 1894 .30WCF with iron sights.

Same rigs that I've been using for several years.; 1) A Savage 99 in 300 Savage with a 4x Weaver scope, loaded with 150 gr Core-Lokts for stands in the woods. 2) A Weatherby Vanguard in 270 Winchester with a 3x9 Leopold scope, loaded with 130 gr Partitions for long lanes, powerlines, and fields. and 3) A New one I bought from a fellow forum member this Spring (didn't really NEED to buy this, but I WANTED it), a Weatherby Vanguard in 257 Weatherby Magnum with an 5x25 Zeiss scope, loaded with 110gr Accubonds. This one will see some duty in some of the big agricultural fields I hunt.

Probably going archery all year, but if I decide to take the gun. It will be either a savage .308 or rem. 700 .270. I bought the .308 last fall and still haven’t decided on a scope for it. I have a cheap old 3x9 Simmons scope that I could throw on and zero in but I don’t know if I want to bother with that at this point so it will probably be the .270 if I decide to sling lead.
